Under Construction
Have you ever lived in the midst of a remodel?
It takes a lot of patience and perseverance!
This morning as I woke up, I was thinking of all the changes we’ve had and the major remodel and repair we’ve done on our property the last 4 years. That’s when I heard God whisper, “That’s exactly what I do, I am always at work in your life.” And right away I understood, as I said, “I never thought about it like that, I guess that means I am under construction too!”
It does say in Ephesians 2:10 that we are his workmanship.
My personal life has been in just as much remodel as our property. While all the physical remodel has been taking place, my life has also been turned upside down and inside-out. Life changed when my youngest son graduated, again when both of my sons married, then with foot surgery and immobility, two granddaughters born and then moving them to another state. With every one of these things, my focus changed, and it affected my energy and my everyday life. And this all happened while moving 4 times while our remodel has been happening. My life has been a shell game!
I’ve never been one to resist change, but come on… it’s a bit much. Have you ever felt that way?
Mentally, we know our Father hasn’t left us to deal with everything by ourselves. He wants to be the air in our lungs when we’re feeling the weight of everything around us pressing in. Even in the most intense physical and emotional moments, He can be the spring in our step that energizes us and the wind in our sail that gets us moving again. But how can we get from here, where we are, to there?
He says to us—
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30)
And we can respond—
“Lord, I want to come to you and experience Your rest. I turn my gaze to you, and choose to focus only on what you show me to do today. I untie from my back all problems that need solutions and everything else that is weighing on me and I place them on your broad shoulders. Turn up the volume of your presence with me as I interact with You. Please teach me to walk with You with lightness of heart, as my soul is at rest. Amen.”
I do embrace change. I love that God, the Father, did not leave me in the state I was when I first came to Him. And I confidently agree with what Paul says in Philippians 1:6—He will not leave His work in me incomplete. I see where I’m at today in all the areas He is working on, but I’m still under construction and my designer sees His finished work. So, I press on with patience and perseverance in the midst of the process, as I look ahead with hope and expectation on the continued work in me. After all, He is the Master Builder!
May His blessings find you today,
