Walking Humbly With God
We get overwhelmed thinking of all we have to do, and sometimes that’s how we approach our walk with God. We have a mental checklist that we try to measure up to. You know what I’m talking about. If we don’t do everything on the list, we feel guilty and that we have failed. I’m a list maker, and so I totally get it! But the freedom God has for us cannot be found on a list. It’s not about marking off that we have read our Bible today, or that we have done all the “right” things. Everything that was written in the Bible is pointing us to The One Who Is, and has always been. It is through our interaction with Him, and observing His presence moment by moment in our lives that we learn to follow Him.
There are plenty of good things that we can do everyday, but are we doing those things that are “hitting the mark”? Are we listening to Him and practicing following? We think we know what is right, but often we come to this conclusion with our intellect, not by listening for God’s direction. Today’s challenge: Before doing what you “know is right”, yield your own conclusions and simply ask God what He wants you to do. If you don’t hear anything right away, listen throughout the day. So many times I have initially been surprised at what I hear God tell me to do, but then a deep peace settles in and I “know”. It is through focus and repetition that we build the habit of walking humbly with God.
“He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 NASB
